Abandoned as a child, MegaMan was found by Barrell Caskett who raised him as part of the family with his granddaughter Roll. At 14 years old, MegaMan acts as the family's digger. With Roll as his spotter, he explores deep into ruins around the world to bring back refractors and other valuable treasures. MegaMan tends to get along well with most people he meets, except for his enemies who soon find he is not someone to be messed with.

After the Caskett family crash lands on Kattelox Island, it becomes MegaMan's job to do what he does best, be a digger. This time his focus is not on valuables, but rather to find parts for their damaged air ship, the Flutter. However, as things progress MegaMan finds himself getting more deeply involved with the island's mysteries, eventually leading him to his first understanding of who he really is...

When Roll's long-lost mother suddenly appears on TV acting mysteriously, MegaMan convinces Roll that they should go check out the situation for themselves. Thus they journey to Forbidden Island, where the legendary Mother Lode is thought to rest. What occurs there sets things in motion that alter MegaMan's life forever.
